Inspections

PHERMC carries out various types of inspection before and after a Health Facility is Registered

Preliminary Inspection

This is the first inspection done by PHERMC to ascertain the suitability or otherwise of a location where the prospective facility is to be sited and whether the proposed structure is adequate for the intended services.

Pre-Registration Inspection

This is the next inspection if the preliminary inspection was satisfactory. The pre-registration inspection is done after the facility has been equipped and the necessary manpower engaged.

This interactive inspection examines the following:

  • The workflow
  • Suitability/adequacy of the equipment for the intended services to be provided at the facility.
  • Adequacy and relevance of the engaged health professional vis-a-vis the intended services

Pre-Full Registration Inspection

This is an inspection carried out at least three (3) months after a private health facility has been provisionally registered to assess their compliance to established minimum standards preparatory to issuance of Certificate of Full Registration (CFR).

Routine Monitoring Inspection

This is an unscheduled periodic inspection carried out by PHERMC to ascertain the level of compliance of registered private health facilities to established minimum standards in terms of equipment, health professionals and service delivery. This is also to scout for unregistered (illegal) private health facilities operating in the FCT for immediate closure.

Follow-Up Inspection

Depending on the nature of the first inspection done, a follow-up inspection could be for preliminary, pre-registration, pre-full registration or routine inspections. This inspection is to ensure that the recommended necessary corrective measures had been fully effected to address identified gaps.

Intensive Inspection

This is a scheduled inspection of registered private health facilities carried out by PHERMC along with members/representatives of professional health associations in the private health sector to objectively assess and enforce qualitative healthcare service delivery.

Emergency Inspection

This is an impromptu inspection carried out by PHERMC following a distress call or an investigative process.
